ECWR Demands the Authorities to detect rapidly the circumstances of the Disappearance of Nagham El-Helbawy and her safe return and to enforce the law to prevent violations of Militants

(Cairo, January 2, 2012) The Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) expresses its worry towards the abuse of the personal security of committing such crimes against persons, which considers new to the Egyptian society. ECWR received the news of the disappearance of Nagham El-Helbaway from her house in Alexandria: she is the younger sister of Sheikh Mohamed El-Helbawy, the coordinator of potential presidential candidate.

Some Militants have broke the law which represent a violation of the state, whereas some of the youngs salafis have attempted to impose strongly their point of view, while they attempted to force Microbuses’ drivers in Zakazik, El-Sharqaya in order to allocate some Microbuses only for women and others for men which led to a fight between them and one of the men who was accompanied by his wife: people intervened to prevent this abuse to personal freedom for Egyptians.

These events threaten the state of law and its domination: from the 25 January 2011 the revolution and martyrs have tried to establish rules in Egypt. It is also a violation of the personal safety that the National Salvation Government promised to achieve. These are just attempts of some religious currents who impose their opinions and convictions strongly on the citizen which is against the democracy and citizenship.

ECWR demands the security bodies to move quickly and immediately. We ask the liberation of the kidnapped young woman, the arrest of the kidnappers and submit them to the court. ECWR also demands the return of security and law in Egypt in this transitional period, keep equally the right of all citizens especially women, who are targeted by many fundamental currents.
