Cairo August 2015
Invitation to launching conference of
A wave of Women’s Voices – 1000 and counting
Dear Sir/ Madame,
Egypt’s 2014 constitution came as a milestone with regards to women’s rights and women’s political participation as Article (11) ensures proper representation of women in representative assemblies, which resulted in a Parliamentary law allocating 12.5% to women. Article (180) allocates that 25% of the local councils’ seats for women and 25% of seats for young people (young men and women) under the age of 35, which means 13,000 seats are allocated for women. This paves the way for women’s political participation in the local councils. This also puts a lot of responsibilities on the society to build the capacitates of women to seize such an opportunity.
Therefore, in the framework of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) efforts to support women’s political participation on all levels and ensuring fair representation of women in elected assemblies to contribute in the development of the society, ECWR launches, in collaboration with United Nations Women Fund for Gender Equality and with the support of Ministry of Social Solidarity, its project
