Invitation to launching conference of A wave of Women’s Voices – 1000 and counting

Cairo August 2015
Invitation to launching conference of
A wave of Women’s Voices – 1000 and counting
Dear Sir/ Madame,
Egypt’s 2014 constitution came as a milestone with regards to women’s rights and women’s political participation as Article (11) ensures proper representation of women in representative assemblies, which resulted in a Parliamentary law allocating 12.5% to women. Article (180) allocates that 25% of the local councils’ seats for women and 25% of seats for young people (young men and women) under the age of 35, which means 13,000 seats are allocated for women. This paves the way for women’s political participation in the local councils. This also puts a lot of responsibilities on the society to build the capacitates of women to seize such an opportunity.
Therefore, in the framework of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) efforts to support women’s political participation on all levels and ensuring fair representation of women in elected assemblies to contribute in the development of the society, ECWR launches, in collaboration with United Nations Women Fund for Gender Equality and with the support of Ministry of Social Solidarity, its project
“A Wave of Women’s Voices – 1000 and Counting”
This project aims to build the capacities and coordinate the efforts of active young women in the society in order to prepare a generation of young women leaders through supporting young women to become elected local councils members.
This project works on
– Build the capacities of1000 young women leaders from all Egypt’s 27 governorates to become members of the local councils.
– Raise the awareness on the importance of the local councils.
– Raise the awareness on the importance of women’s participation in the local councils
Hence, the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights and the UN Women Fund for Gender Equality cordially invites to attend the project launch conference. Believing in the your role in Egypt’s and in the democratic process, we are certain your attendance will be an added value in the discussion on Sunday, 16th of August 2015 in Pyramisa Hotel, Dokki, Pavion Hall at 10 am.
Thank you,
