Council employees had been beaten from the security of Prime Minister
(Cairo, 18 August 2011) ECWR condemns the assault of one of guard officer “the deputy director of the office of security” in the Cabinet, when he beat the secretary of the deputy of the Prime Minister by slapping her face and kicked her
in front of the office of the Prime Minister.
This incident shock all Egyptian because it shows that the Security Forces continue to abuse their powers, without caring about the human rights or the law.
What it’s happened in the office of Prime Minister also indicates the inability of the government to protect Egyptians from the violence attitudes of Security Forces.
In the incident reported, Ms. Amal Ramadan – the secretary of Dr. Aly El Selmi, vice Prime minister for political development and democratization – she was attacked verbally and physically by ex-former guard which he has belonged since
the era of Former Prime Ministers Atef Ebeif and Ahmed Nazif. This officer, used to deal with Egyptian regardless of human rights and law, he continuing to behave with aggressive and violence manners, without any consideration of the
struggle that Egyptian carried out against the police practices and human right violations, during the 25th Jan. Revolution.
The reaction of the Prime Minister regarding this incident was really strange and inappropriate. Indeed he canceled the assignment of the security officer and he returned to his previous work at the Petroleum Ministry and he also punished the
victim by canceling her assignment at the Ministry Council and by returning to her work in the Ministry of communication.
The ECWR demands:
- A formal clarification from the Prime Minister Cabinet about the incident and the procedures taken regarding it.
- Take all the legal procedures against the officer involved in the accident.
- Provide an official apology to Ms. Amal Ramdan and return her back to her work at the Ministry Council.
- Revise the security policies and the approval of restricted procedures that oblige the security officers to respect the rule of Law and Human rights.
