(Cairo, 23 November 2011) In the frame of the ECWR’s operations room follow up to the upcoming parliamentary elections. ECWR issues the second report on the percentage of women candidates in the first phase in the governorates of Cairo, El-Fayoum, Port Said, Damietta, Alexandria, Kafr El-Sheikh, Asuit, Luxor, and Red Sea. On the individual system or the party- list the results announced that the percentage of women’s nomination in Cairo
governorate in the individual system is 8 % and on the party- list is 13%; in El-Fayoum on the individual system is 7%, and on the party list is 16%. In Port Said, the percentage on the individual system is 11%, in the party-list is 23%. In Damietta, the percentage is 4% in the individual system and 13% in the party- list. In Alexandria, the percentage in the individual level is 8% and 14% in the party- list. In Kafr El-Sheikh, the percentage on the individual system is 1.5% and on the party- list is 16%. The percentage in Asuit in the individual system is 2% and in the party- list is 25% and in the Red Sea on the individual system is 11% and on the party-list is 11%.
It is notable that the highest nomination percentage on the individual system is in Port Said and the highest percentage on the party-list is in Luxor and in the Red Sea governorate. The lowest nomination percentage in the individual system is Kafer El-Sheikh and on the partylist is in Asuit.
