The Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights ECWR hosted 18 students Monday December 17, 2012 from the Schools Imbaba Ismailia and Al Nahda to familiarize them with ECWR’s roles in enhancing women’s participation and equality between women and men in terms of rights and responsibilities. This visit is part of ECWR’s plan to promote community engagement between the educational institutions and the civil society organizations within the framework of “Safe Street for All” campaign that ECWR adopts to combat sexual harassment and to spread awareness among the new generations about the role that these organizations play in bridging the gap between the society and the governmental institutions. Therefore, those students can get involved and participate actively to make use of their spare time via making useful contribution that can help them develop their characters.
The dialogue dealt with the following points:
- The definition of civil society and the difference between charitable, developmental and advocacy institutions
- The diverse activities that ECWR carries out, so that it can enhance the active participation and increase women’s participation in the society.
- How to ascertain the values of respect, privacy, accepting the other and combating some negative phenomenon in our society such as sexual harassment
Mohem Giddan (very important) movie was screened and then the floor was open for discussion about the major messages that the film conveyed and how we can benefit from them. The students’questions were answered and then the visit ended with a tour through ECWR’s office while giving the students’ some presents and taking pictures.
