The Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights ECWR began with an operation room to monitor the Presidential Elections 2012

With the continuous role that the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights ECWR plays, in
order to enhance women’s role in the Egyptian political life. ECWR has followed up on
the tools and means, to guarantee providing the balanced- aspired and convenientequality
for women.
ECWR will monitor the presidential elections from a gender perspective and will set up
an operation room that will carry out the following tasks:
First task: Technical Support:
As ECWR works on:

  • Training female youth leaders to become assistants in the electoral campaigns andassisting them to be able to run for the local elections

Second task: Monitoring Elections:
ECWR monitors all the stages of the electoral process from a gender perspective,
through publishing press releases based on the daily observation to analyze the following:

  • Presenting a vision that is concerned with observing women’s participation as voters
  • How the electoral process affects women’s participation-negatively or positively.
  • Observing the support that is given to women by the Egyptian political parties or any other organization on political, monetary and technical levels.

The Monitoring stages include the following:
Candidacy/Nomination Stage:
This includes observing the candidates, following up on their platforms and analyzes
women’s standing in their platforms.
Voting Stage:
This includes monitoring all the stages of voting beginning with opening the polling
stations, the voting process, the role of the Higher Electoral Commission in the electoral
process, facilitating the work of the candidates’ agents and finally the closing.
Counting and announcing the Results:
This includes all the legal procedures of counting, result announcement, run offs and
electoral appeals.
