(Cairo, 28 May 2013) In their ongoing policy of excluding women from vital sectors like health and education, the President of the Egyptian Opera House, Dr. Inas Abdel Dayem, has been removed from her post by the Muslim Brotherhood government.
The Muslim Brotherhood leadership is well-known for issuing contradicting statements and they never fail at proving so. A few days ago, the Minister of Culture, Dr. Alaa Abdel-Aziz, assured that there is no intention what so ever to change Dr. Enas and that this was just a rumor. However, she has been removed from her post regardless of how successful and prosperous the Opera House has become under her administration. Thus, she deserves to be awarded for her work and not excluded.
Yet this is just part of the Muslim Brotherhood’s policy of excluding women from all political, social and cultural posts since 25th of January revolution.
The Egyptian woman has participated in the revolution calling for freedom and social equality but unfortunately she has to fight the Muslim Brotherhood’s regime that is doing everything in order to silence anyone who calls for women’s rights.
Thus, the ECWR strongly refuses the regime’s campaign to exclude women from any governmental post assuring that such acts are in violation to the constitution that they themselves have created vaguely calling for equality and non-discrimination.
The center has been receiving many calls from women who have been removed from their jobs with no justifiable reason but for the fact that they are women.
ECWR requests the ruling regime to abandon their campaign against women and all legal actions will be taken to stop violations against women.
The Center encourages all Egyptian women to report to us any similar cases of exclusion and discrimination.
