During the Morning of the Second Day of the Referendum

During the morning of the second day of the referendum, the dominant trend has been the regular work of the polls and quietness in the others. This is what the operations room of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights which continues to cover the referendum for the second day, and the observers have witnessed the following:

Administrative Challenges:

Some polls’ opening was delayed, for example:

  • In Qena governorate (El Obour preparatory school in El Gangour- poll no 70), the poll opened at 10 AM due to security precautions
  • In Assuit governorate (second constituency- the Islamic charity preparatory school), the turnover was low from the female voters in the morning and there was no follow up on the ink
  • In El Sharkkiya governorate (the Qanayat secondary school-poll no 6), the poll opened at 9:45 AM because the judge was late. In addition, in El Daydamoun preparatory school in Faqous, the polls opened at 9:20 for the same reason.

Instructing the Voters:

  • In El Sharkiya governorate (Harriya Rizna constituency-Ahmed Urabi preparatory school), in the mixed poll no 214, there were 2 poll workers who were instructing the voters to reject the constitution and the judge has quickly handled the situation and replaced these 2 poll workers with another 2 civil servants from the local council.
  • In Assuit governorate (the first constituency- El Khayyat secondary school for girls-poll no. 43, 44, 45, 46), there were voter instruction, so that the voters shall vote for accepting the constitution by the “Future of a Nation campaign” through many big posters around the school.
  • In El Minya governorate (the compound of Der El Sankoryya schools, poll no 91), there was a poll worker instructing the voters to vote with rejecting the constitution
  • In Suez governorate (El Arbayeen district-the poll no 90 and 92 in the youth center poll center), there was voter instruction to reject the constitution on behalf of the poll workers.

Mobilizing Voters:

  • In Aswan governorate (Edfu constituency), the national Democratic party was mobilizing women and elders to vote with accepting the constitution
