Nehad Abo El-Komsan Participates in the fall meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund to Discuss the Gender Equality, Shared Responsibility and the Poverty Reduction

(Cairo October 9th, 2014) The World Bank Group & the International Monetary Fund (IMF) hold fall meetings in their headquarters in Washington.

Mrs. Nehad Abo El-Komsan participates as a member in the World Bank Advisory Council on Gender and Development. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will hold its annual meetings coincide with the World Bank Group.
The World Bank will discuss new strategies including advancing gender equality, driving inclusive growth in the private sector; additionally evaluating the collective actions and partnerships with the United Nations and civil society.

The Advisory Council addresses the issues of women and development, gender equality, shared responsibility and fight poverty as well as consider progress on, and constraints to, gender equality globally, and to provide feedback and advice for the World Bank’s work on gender equality on how to support women’s political and economic participation and how to access to the opportunities of work and financial services.

A number of seminars are being held along with this meeting which will discuss key issues including Building Shared Prosperity in an Unequal World, Making Extractive Industries’ Wealth Work for the Poor, Transforming Economies to Benefit the Poor: Jobs, Infrastructure and Private Investment, Cities and Citizens: Challenges for Inclusive Development, Financing Development Post-2015: Towards a Shared Vision, and Food for the Future: Achieving Food Security and Fighting Climate Change …etc.

Number of experts will participate in the Advisory Council meeting including Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani Chairman of the Board, Ooredoo Group, Qatar – Elizabeth Broderick, Sex, Discrimination Commissioner and Commissioner, Australia- Indira Jaising, Additional Solicitor General; Director of Lawyers Collective Women’s Rights Initiative (LCWRI), India- Isabella Löven Minister for International Development Cooperation, Sweden- Kaifala Marah, Minister of Finance, Sierra Leone- Melanne Verveer, Executive Director, Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, Georgetown University – Nick Dyer, Director General for Policy and Global Programmes, Department for International Development, UK – Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director, UN Women – Rob Swartbol, Vice Minister, Development Cooperation, Netherlands- Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director, Oxfam International.

It is worth mentioning that Nehad Abo El-Komsan is the only Arab woman who combines membership of the highest two committees concerns with women at the world which are the World Bank Advisory Council for Gender and Development and the UN Women’s Global Civil Society Advisory Group.

Abo El-Komsan hopes, through both committees, to highlight Egyptian and Arab women’s issues and improve women’s status on the international map.
