The Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) has published its 2024 annual report on the status of women, titled “Outcomes 2024: Egyptian Women Between the Challenges of Reality and the Aspirations of the Future<\/i>.”<\/p>\n

The report highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Egyptian women across various fields in 2024. Legislative and legal gaps continue to hinder the protection of women from violence and discrimination. Despite the Egyptian Constitution’s stipulation for the protection of women from violence, laws do not guarantee sufficient protection, and enforcement measures lack serious mechanisms to prevent violence. Additionally, family law remains outdated, forcing some women to remain in abusive and violent marriages.<\/p>\n

The report also addresses the continued discriminatory practices in certain sectors, such as the decision to exclude some female athletes from international competitions and the decision to require certain categories of women to obtain prior approval to travel to Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

The report indicates that these challenges have affected Egypt’s ranking in global reports. For example, according to the Global Gender Gap Report issued by the World Economic Forum in 2024, Egypt ranked 135th<\/sup> out of 146 countries, 90th<\/sup> in the Political Empowerment Index, 140th<\/sup> in the Economic Empowerment Index for Women, 110th<\/sup> in the Educational Attainment Index, and 89th<\/sup> in the Health Index.<\/p>\n

The report analyses advancements and obstacles in Egyptian women’s empowerment in 2024, proposing recommendations for future policy and program development.<\/p>\n
