The Use of Women’s Actresses’ Bodies or Sexual Innuendos as Entertainment Tools is a Call to Normalize Harassment and Crimes Against Women

Cairo, February 22, 2026

The Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) has closely monitored recent content aired on the prank TV show Ramez Level el-Wahsh, specifically the introduction accompanying one of the episodes. ECWR noted that this introduction contained commentary of a physical and sexual nature directed at a female guest, which constitutes an infringement on human dignity.

ECWR emphasizes that the use of the women’s bodies or sexual innuendos as a tool for entertainment cannot be dismissed as casual humor; rather, it represents a form of symbolic violence and media bullying. Such content contributes to the normalization of commenting on women’s bodies and provides a pretext for justifying verbal harassment under the guise of comedy.

Regardless of its entertainment value, all media material is subject to the boundaries of social and professional responsibility. It is impermissible for content to include material that degrades dignity or creates an environment encouraging discrimination, harassment, or insult, particularly when broadcast to a vast audience of varying ages.

ECWR points out that Egyptian laws criminalize actions or words of an unwanted sexual nature if they result in distress or harm to one’s reputation. Furthermore, professional media standards mandate the avoidance of content involving contempt, bullying, or the violation of human privacy.

Accordingly, ECWR calls upon content creators and production companies to review the ethical standards governing entertainment materials and to refrain from presenting content based on physical embarrassment, sexual innuendo, or psychological intimidation as a means of eliciting laughter.

ECWR affirms its solidarity with the right of any individual to object to their body or emotions being used as a subject of ridicule, stressing that entertainment must not come at the expense of human dignity or psychological safety.

Finally, ECWR urges media institutions to promote a discourse that respects the individual and limits the spread of content that may entrench behaviors of harassment, bullying, or verbal abuse within Egyptian society.
