(Cairo, September 26th, 2021) Believing of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights as an advocacy organization in women’s rights that is dedicated its efforts to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls, ECWR launches a campaign under the title “#I’m_Not_Your_Plus-One”. This campaign comes within the framework of ECWR’s winning the 2021 prize of “Equality between Men and Women” which is supported by the French Embassy in cooperation with the French Institute of Egypt. The campaign takes the fifth goal of the sustainable development goals as a starting point for its work in integrating a culture of gender equality and raising awareness of the role of women and their participation in all aspects of life.
The campaign “#I’m_Not_Your_Plus-One” aims to disseminate a culture of gender equality, raise awareness of the importance of the role of women and their participation by highlighting the gaps in gender equality issues and recognizing gender equality issues, and integrating gender issues in development processes.
To achieve these goals, ECWR seeks to outreach with young men and women through all means of communication, to discuss many issues and challenges that stand in the way of achieving equality and gender balance in Egypt. The campaign is also concerned with involving men in eliminating discrimination against women.
The campaign’s activities include presenting gender issues and correcting their understanding through social media, changing the stereotype of women and coming up with innovative ideas that would enhance and support women’s participation in the public sphere, and provide simplified information and correct concepts on gender issues.
