(Cairo, October 18, 2020) It is with great honor that the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) congratulates Nehad Abolkomsan, chairwoman of ECWR, for the recognition received by Spanish Foreign Minister Ms. Arancha González Laya. Ms. Nehad was thus awarded the Order of Civil Merit by King Felipe VI of Spain.
In a ceremony organized at the residence of the Spanish Ambassador in Egypt on October 17th, 2020, Ms. Laya stated that Ms. Abolkomsan was awarded this medal, due to the huge role which she plays in advocating for human rights, gender equality, women’s political rights, as well as her involvement in the cause of violence against women, and FGM; emphasizing the role which civil society plays in all these issues.
The Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights would like to take this moment to express its delight for Ms. Nehad Abolkomsan, and its best wishes for future success and achievement in all what she does for women’s rights politically, socially, and economically as an expert in gender and development, and legally, as a senior lawyer of cassation.
