In a new episode of Hekayat Nehad presented by Nehad Abolkomsan, lawyer and Chairwoman of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights, the standards of safe cities for women were discussed in an episode entitled “Safe Cities for Women.”
Nehad emphasized that there is a strong relationship between women and girls’ sense of safety on the street and the infrastructure services, such as road lighting and sidewalks, and the availability of safe transportation. She cautioned that human needs are different, and countries should take into account those differences in needs when designing roads and streets. The reason being is that women and girls are the most vulnerable to sexual harassment and harassment.
She emphasized that there is a program implemented by the National Council for Women entitled Safe Cities for Women free from violence against women, and the program’s goal is to make all places safe for women, while eliminating all forms of violence against women.
In the inspiring personalities segment, the episode hosted Sherine Ali, Program Analyst for the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at UN Women, who confirmed that Safe Cities is a global program that began in 2011. Egypt was one of the first countries in which the program was implemented through the partnership between the National Council for women, state institutions and civil society. The concept of safe cities for women and girls opened the door to re-developing the infrastructure to meet the needs of all citizens, especially women, and the long-term goal of the program is to move towards sustainable development goals, especially goals 5 and 11.
“Nehad’s Stories” is a television program concerned with women’s rights by simplifying all the knowledge and evidence produced by civil society, and related to “women’s empowerment” in all political, economic, social, and legal fields and reducing violence. It deals with a simple approach, which is storytelling, analysis, and interaction with the public through questions.
The program is shown on Alqahera wal Nas channel every Saturday at 05:30 pm, and replayed on Alqahera wal Nas 1 on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11.30 am, and on Alqahera wal Nas 2 on Mondays and Fridays at 2.30 pm, on Tuesday at 7.30 pm, and on Wednesday at 7 pm.
