In a new episode of Hekayat Nehad program presented by Nehad Abolkomsan, lawyer and chair of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights, she addressed the importance of providing a safe work environment for women and men, in an episode entitled “Cancellation of for men only.”
Nehad indicated that there were more than 30 fields of work that women were prohibited from practicing in, based on ministerial decisions issued many years ago, while the reality is that women work in them but outside the protection of the law. Women were also prevented from working at night.
With some women having to hide in men’s identities so that they can work in those prohibited areas to help their families, drew the attention of the Minister of Manpower. There was a need to review those ministerial decisions, which were trying to protect women with a policy of preventing them from working, and thus half the population was excluded from work to contribute formally to the development of the economy.
Indeed, the current Minister of Manpower, Muhammad Saafan, issued two very important decisions. The first is Decree No. 43 of 2021, according to which all areas of work are opened to women, and the second is Decree No. 44 of 2021, according to which women can work at night while providing a safe work environment and safe transportation.
Abolkomsan explained that the entry of women into all fields of work resulted in the provision of a safe work environment for all men and women, safe transportation for all, and legal protection measures for all.
In the inspiring personalities segment, the episode hosted Leqaa AlKhouli, the first young woman to become a mechanic in Upper Egypt. Leqaa explained that her passion for mechanics began when she was watching her father working in his own workshop when she was 11 years old, and she was helping him in his work. She decided that this would be her work with her father and began to gain experience from him, until he passed away. She decided to continue working in the workshop. Her reputation began to spread and she was honored by the President of the Republic, and she received a scholarship to study mechanics at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, until she fulfilled her dream of opening the first car mechanics maintenance center in Upper Egypt – run by a girl.
