ECWR Issues A Map Of The Entities Supporting Small Projects

Cairo, May 23, 2021

Egypt is witnessing high rates of female unemployment. The unemployment rate among females during the fourth quarter of 2020 has gotten to 16.8% of the total female in the labour force. Thus, the contribution of girls in the labour market is modest, and reflects a significant decline in the desire of young women to work, despite the convergence in the enrolment rates of females and males in different stages of education. What is even more remarkable, is the academic excellence of girls in the different educational stages, as they top the list of students in all majors

By reviewing the reasons behind the gap between education and work, we find that many girls are looking for traditional job opportunities in the formal sector, especially the governmental one, because they believe that it is best suited for them, despite the fact that development at the international and local level indicates better opportunities in the private sector, especially in the framework of small and medium enterprises.

Within the framework of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights’ role in the economic empowerment of women, and the importance of making information available to them, believing in the principle that knowledge is power, ECWR has issued a map with the institutions that support small projects under the title “The Beginning Of The Path … A Map For The Institutions Supporting Small Projects.” The guide acts as the beginning of the road for young women to encourage them to turn their ideas into projects on the ground.

The map includes the institutions that provide technical or financial support to small and medium enterprises, as well as the conditions of each agency to obtain financing, in order to remove any obstacles or concerns that prevent women and girls from taking steps to start their entrepreneurial projects.
